What we do


Integration

JRS Ireland seeks to contribute to integration by organising one-to-one English language classes, running an Integration Support Group and by working with teachers and students and parents through our School Integration Programme.

Detention

JRS Ireland visits people who are detained in prison under immigration related provisions, provides assistance for people post-release, organises training for detention visitors, and advocates for more just detention policies, in particular, recourse to non custodial alternatives to detention.

Advocacy

JRS Ireland works for fairer immigration and asylum systems. We seek to achieve this through direct lobbying of policymakers, submission of policy papers and responding to proposed legislation. We aim to engage in public dialogue on these issues through national and local radio and print media.

Asylum Seeker Support

JRS Ireland provides support to persons seeking asylum through outreach and accompaniment in direct provision centres. We provide psychosocial support though short personal development courses, intercultural activities and one-to-one language tuition, aimed at restoring confidence and ending isolation.

Publications

JRS Ireland develops resources in response to needs on the ground. As part of our School Integration project we have developed a Resource Folder for teachers and a Guide to the Education System for migrant parents. Each year we publish an Intercultural and Interfaith Calendar that celebrates diversity in Irish society.

Jesuit Refugee Service

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic non-governmental organisation, founded in 1980. Its mission is to accompany, advocate and serve the cause of refugees and forcibly displaced persons worldwide. It operates at national and regional levels, with the support of an international office in Rome.
